Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson is taking a stand against the persistent power outages in Ghana, known as “dumsor”. She is leading a protest vigil, dubbed #DumsorMustStop, to demand a solution to the ongoing issue.

The protest, scheduled for June 8, 2024, will begin at the University of Ghana and end at the Tetteh Quarshie Roundabout. This is not Nelson’s first time leading a protest against dumsor; she also organized a successful protest in 2015.

Initially, the police attempted to obtain a court order to stop the protest, but they have since agreed to allow it to proceed. The protest aims to bring attention to the frustrating and disruptive power outages that have become all too common in Ghana.

Yvonne Nelson and the #DumsorMustStop movement are calling on the government to take action and find a lasting solution to the dumsor problem. With the support of fellow citizens and the entertainment industry, Nelson hopes to make a meaningful impact and bring about change.
