Google has disclosed that beginning in December 2023 for WhatsApp Beta users and early 2024 for all Android users, the storage space consumed by WhatsApp backups on Android will be included in their Google Account cloud storage limit.

Android smartphone users will soon no longer have a significant ‘WhatsApp advantage’ due to a recent announcement from Google and WhatsApp. The modification means that the usage of users’ Google account cloud storage will now include WhatsApp chat and media backups on Android devices. These backups did not impact the amount of storage that users already had in their Google Drive.

Nevertheless, the situation has undergone a transformation due to the implementation of the most recent company policy modifications. People who currently rely on Google Drive’s default 15GB storage limit should now take precautions regarding their storage space.

According to a post in WhatsApp’s Help Center, when a user goes over the designated storage limit, they will need to create room for new content in order to continue backing up. If you are concerned about WhatsApp and Google abruptly ceasing your backups, be assured that it will not happen. WhatsApp will give users a 30-day notice before removing their free chat backups from Google Drive, allowing them enough time to make any required modifications or adjustments.
