Tyrone Marhguy, the student who follows the Rastafarian religion and was initially not allowed to attend Achimota School because of his dreadlocks, has received two awards from the American Mathematics Olympiad in 2023 for his exceptional performance in Grade 12.

After a court ruling, Tyrone was later admitted to the school. Tyrone emerged as the highest-scoring national student in 2023, receiving the prestigious Gold medal. He achieved this remarkable feat by surpassing more than 150,000 participants from various countries.

He received the Vanda Science International Olympiad’s Silver category award, surpassing 38,000 other participants. He has been formally accepted into the International Junior Honor Society in 2023.

The occasion occurred on December 29, 2023, at the venue of the Chartered Institute of Bankers Hall in Accra. The purpose of the awards was to recognize and celebrate outstanding students, teachers, and deserving participants in the ATDP and Olympiad 2022 Academic Season in the education field.
