Ewura Abena, a Gospel singer and songwriter from Ghana, recently went on social media to express her concerns about the royalty payment she received from GHAMRO (Ghana Music Rights Organization).
The singer known as ‘This Far’ expressed her concerns on social media regarding the organization responsible for managing author/composer royalties. In a post noticed by Ameyaw Debrah Media, she questioned the organization about receiving only Gh148.50 as payment for her royalties. She inquired with the agency whether the royalty she received was solely for one particular song or for all of her songs. She also asked if the duration was for one month, the entire year, or a trial run prior to making the actual payment.
“Ghamro, can you clarify if this Gh148.50 payment is the royalty for one song, all of my songs, one month, one year, or simply a test transmission before the actual payment? Is this amount for a single song or does it cover multiple songs? Is this for a short period of time or a longer duration?” she asked.
GHAMRO has been under close scrutiny for some time now, as various stakeholders and individuals in the industry have expressed the need for a comprehensive investigation into its financial practices.
