Parliament has approved the nomination of Justice Gertrude Araba Torkonoo as the new Chief Justice.The approval though was by a unanimous decision was not without heated exchanges. Minority chief whip Governs Kwame Agbodza shredded into responses of the incoming Chief Justice on the Supreme Court Judgment declaring the birth certificate no proof for citizenship.
The Adaklu MP called on the Apex Court of the land to take another look at the judgment. The assertion generated back and forth with the Speaker and Abuakwa South MP Samuel Atta Akyea.When tempers cooled, other MPs including the women caucus took turns to extol the virtues of the incoming Chief Justice.
The nomination of Justice Gertrude Araba Essaba Torkonoo was consequently approved by voice votes for her to be sworn in as the new Chief Justice.
