Thomas Partey and Tariq Lamptey, both from the Premier League, won’t be part of the Black Stars’ 27-man squad for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Chris Hughton announced the squad on January 1, excluding Partey, who hasn’t played since Ghana’s October friendlies, and Lamptey. Partey returned to training last month after recovering from an October injury, but Hughton decided to omit him from the squad.
Lamptey, initially a subject of inclusion debates in the provisional squad, will now be absent from the list due to injury. Despite this, three players from the Ghana Premier League, including Richmond Lamptey from Asante Kotoko, have secured spots in Chris Hughton’s final 27-man squad for the tournament.
The other two are Medeama duo Hamid Abdul Fatawu and Jonathan Sowah who gained their maiden Black Stars call-ups under the Irish trainer.
