More than 4,000 people living in the southeastern region of Ghana have been compelled to leave their houses due to extensive flooding.
The current emergency has been provoked due to the excessive overflow of the Akosombo Dam, which has led to extensive damage of residences and agricultural areas located adjacent to the River Volta.
The heavy flood has caused the interruption of vital services, resulting in certain regions being deprived of water and electricity.
The government of Ghana, in an official announcement on Friday, verified that numerous individuals in at least nine districts have been forced to leave their homes due to severe flooding, as stated by local media.

The Global Disaster and Coordination System, which is associated with the United Nations, stated that there were seven injuries related to the catastrophe. Before the flooding occurred, the Volta River Authority had released warnings advising people to move to areas with higher elevation.

This suggestion was made due to the increasing water levels occurring upstream of the Akosombo Dam, mainly caused by intense rainfall in the area.
