Nasiba Bawa gained widespread attention when she was interviewed by Maxwell Agbagba of JoyNews during the #OccupyJulorbiHouse demonstration three weeks ago.
During the demonstration’s final night, she passionately addressed the police, expressing her strong concerns about Ghana’s healthcare system’s ineffectiveness.
Ms Bawa was expressing her frustration over the death of a patient who was only 24 years old due to not being able to afford the expenses for their medical care.
Following this incident, another sign began to spread widely on the internet, stating that patients with kidney disease would be responsible for paying for their dialysis at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
This, along with a number of other advancements, contributed to bringing the discussion on the condition of kidney care to the forefront. Nevertheless, JoyNews has obtained information that 48 hours following the demonstration, Nasiba was dismissed from her job by her private employers.
The individual with a Masters degree mentioned that while she does not wish to explicitly connect the protest with her termination, she believes there are consequences for expressing one’s opinions.
