It is a result that will go down in the history books of West Ham United Football Club.
On Wednesday evening, at the Fortuna Arena in Prague, the Hammers lifted their first major trophy in 43 years after goals from Said Benrahma and Jarrod Bowen sealed a dramatic 2-1 win against Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League final.
David Moyes’ side restricted their Serie A opponents to a limited amount of shots throughout the opening half and with 62 minutes played, West Ham were rewarded for their efforts when Cristiano Biraghi’s handballed in the area.
A cool, calm and collected Said Benrahma proceeded to convert from 12 yards with an emphatic strike from the penalty spot – a goal that brought incredible scenes from the travelling support. Check out these limbs.
West Ham’s slender lead lasted a grand total of five minutes, however, after experienced midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura equalised with a clever strike that bounced across Areola and into the corner. And then, in the 89th minute, Man of the Match contender Lucas Paqueta played Jarrod Bowen through with a wonderful cutting pass before the England international slotted away with a composed finish.
David Moyes celebrated by running down the touchline.
