Four Paris Saint-Germain players, namely France internationals Randal Kolo Muani (24), Ousmane Dembélé (26) and Layvin Kurzawa as well as Morocco international Achraf Hakimi (24), have been officially summoned by the Ligue de Football Professionnel’s Disciplinary committee. The four PSG players are risking a suspension after singing offensive chants in the wake of Les Parisiens‘ one-sided 4-0 win in last Sunday’s Classique against Olympique de Marseille.
Video footage showed Kolo Muani, Dembélé, Kurzawa and Hakimi chanting an anti-Marseille chant after the match. The matter sparked outrage in France. France’s Sports Minister Amélie Oudéa-Castéra denounced the chants and added that the LFP were investigating the incident. The Ligue 1 champions released a statement, expressing their condemnation of “all forms of discrimination, notably homophobia.”
This Wednesday night, the League’s Disciplinary committee announced that the four PSG players in question would be summoned for the committee’s next session, on Thursday, October 5th. Kolo Muani, Dembélé, Hakimi and Kurzawa could face a suspension. In the aftermath of Marseille’s 2011 League Cup win against Montpellier, Nigerian defender Taye Taiwo was handed a one-game ban for a similar anti-PSG chant.
