Chris Hughton, the coach of Ghana, has expressed his apologies to the people of Ghana after the disastrous performance of the Black Stars against the USA. Hughton’s team suffered a shameful 4-0 loss against the USA in an international friendly on Wednesday morning at Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
The USA caused chaos in the first half, scoring goals through Giovanni Reyna (twice), Christian Pulisic, and Leon Balogun, inflicting significant damage. The Black Stars were mostly lacking energy and did not provide much competition to their opponents, particularly in the one-sided first half.
Speaking to reporters during a press conference after the game, Hughton expressed regret over his team’s appalling performance. “I regret the outcome and the performance,” expressed the 64-year-old, as mentioned by Fentuo Tahiru from Joy Sports.
Following their loss to Germany a few days ago, the USA had a strong start to this game and their early control of the match led to success as Reyna scored from the rebound within only 10 minutes.
Gregg Berhalter’s team continued to consistently make uncontested attacks into Ghana’s territory and were given a penalty when Pulisic was awkwardly fouled inside the penalty area.
The winger from AC Milan took it upon himself to assume responsibility and successfully scored from the penalty spot, increasing the home team’s lead in the 22nd minute.
Balogon scored the third goal and Reyna added a fourth shortly before the end of the first half, easily shooting the ball into the net from an indirect free-kick, making it impossible for Ghana to catch up in the game.
The Black Stars suffered their second defeat in international games this month, as Mexico handed them a 2-0 loss last Sunday.
