A prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Agyarko, claims that the party has deviated from its core principles and beliefs.

Mr. Agyarko, who was unsuccessful in his attempt to become the leader of the NPP in the upcoming 2024 general elections, expressed his concern that dishonesty and deceit have replaced principles and carefully planned strategies within the party.

He believes that the party is going off track and immediate measures need to be taken to prevent it from happening. In an open letter released on Tuesday, October 10th, he emphasized that the party’s priorities have shifted from working towards the progress of the nation to pursuing their own personal gains. In truth, our political landscape has transformed into a less peaceful and respectable endeavor, as it no longer solely focuses on addressing the pressing matters of our nation’s progress.

Currently, politics has become akin to a loud marketplace and election campaigns, where making noise, causing trouble, being insincere, and spreading falsehoods hold more importance than genuine thinking, demonstrating moral fiber, and upholding principles. “This excerpt from the opinion letter mentions that we must rescue ourselves from this difficult situation.” The individual in question is Professor, who had previously aspired to become the President from the ruling party.

Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng also thinks that the party has compromised its ethical standards in the way it governs. The recently former Environment Minister asserts that the political party, which once supported and demonstrated inclusiveness in governance, has now strayed from this principle. He believes that the present NPP is currently governing Ghana with a regime consisting of relatives, close acquaintances, and supporters.

The renowned heart surgeon and creator of the National Cardiothoracic Center pondered about the significant decline of the party in recent times.

There are individuals who assert themselves as devoted supporters of the party, yet they hold no official political roles or positions within the party hierarchy. They seem to possess such a significant amount of authority that one of them is referred to as the unofficial leader of the country.

It seems that they possess the necessary qualities to ensure that their friends and favorites are selected for significant and influential roles in society. Meanwhile, they exhibit a tendency to disregard and create hardships for the people of Ghana.

This is different from the NPP that we are familiar with. “NPP, HOW DID WE GET HERE?” We are currently experiencing a form of governance known as “family, friends, and concubines government,” where the press is controlled not by violence but by the means of bribery and intimidation.

We are currently observing the utilization of government institutions to silence innovative voices, while simultaneously enabling and promoting corruption.

Instead of experiencing progress and liberty, we are observing an alarming trend of intense coercion, financial decline, and anguish endured without expression. “HOW DID WE GET HERE NPP?”
