The Adenta High Court has dismissed a legal case filed by Cruise People Ltd against Mohammed Ismail Sharrif, who is more commonly known as Black Sherif, on November 16, 2023.

The lawsuit was centered around an accused violation of a performance agreement by the team of Black Sherif. Based on reliable sources, it has been reported that Black Sherif was scheduled to entertain on a Cruise Ship in Athens, Greece on August 19, 2023.

Nevertheless, the promoter, Daniel Vanderpuje of Cruise People Ltd., decided to cancel the show even though it was still planned for a future date. He claimed that there had been violations in terms of publicity. After the contract was ended, the promoter asked Black Sherif to give back the $20,000 deposit.

Black Sherif’s team refused to comply with The Cruise People Ltd.’s request for a deposit because they believed that The Cruise People had already ended the contract. Black Sherif firmly stated that he deserved to be compensated for the one-sided termination of the contract. Daniel Vanderpuye, the person who organized the event, was unhappy with what happened and decided to take legal action. He wanted to get his deposit back, as well as interest on that amount. He also wanted to be compensated for the money and profits he lost because of the situation, and he sought general damages for the breach of contract.

Finally, he wanted the other party to cover the costs associated with the court case. The legal team of Black Sherif comprises lawyers Dominic Brenya-Otchere and Kenneth Paa Kwesi Agyir. Esther Addai, a lawyer, is present. Sam Okudzeto and Associates lawyers have made a conditional appearance in court and submitted a request to have the lawsuit dismissed. This is based on the argument that the contract includes a clause stating that any disagreement related to the contract must be resolved solely in the United Kingdom.

On October 19, 2023, the Court directed the parties to submit written documents within a two-week period and postponed the case to November 16, 2023, when a decision would be made. The knowledgeable High Court Judge approved Black Sherif’s request and pointed out that the issue at hand was not closely related to Ghana.

The judge believed that both parties essentially wanted any conflicts related to the matter to be settled in the UK. As a result, the judge dismissed the Plaintiff’s legal document and claim since the lawsuit was filed in the incorrect jurisdiction. A reliable insider informed that if Cruise People Ltd. If they initiate any legal action in the correct jurisdiction, they will file a counterclaim demanding the entire contract amount, interest, and compensation for the violation of the contract.

Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamekloe, who is the Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), acted as the legal representative for the Plaintiff.
