AFC Wrexham and their Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have reportedly been handed a £25 million backing to improve the club’s home ground, The Racecourse.
Ever since Reynolds and McElhenney took over the club back in February 2021, many people have been paying close attention to Wrexham’s every move.Currently, the Red Dragons are on the brink of securing promotion back to the English Football League for the first time since 2008.After winning against Yeovil Town on Tuesday night, Wrexham moved to 107 points at the top of the table.
If they win their match against Boreham Wood on Saturday, their place in League Two will be secured for next season.
Ahead of this historic moment, it has been reported that the club have been given a huge financial backing.According to the Daily Star, Wrexham council have pledged £25 million towards a brand new 5,500 seater stand at the club’s home ground, The Racecourse.
If they are to go ahead with the construction, the ground’s capacity will increase to 15,000, which is nearly 4000 more than Premier League club Bournemouth.It has been reported that Wrexham originally attempted to secure financial backing from the UK government by submitting an application through the Levelling Up scheme.
